Take the 116 from Gillingham or 132 from Chatham to Hempstead Valley.
From Hempstead Valley cross Sharsted Way and The Rise. Go up the steps by the footpath sign. Turn left and follow the footpath to Maidstone Road. Turn Right and then left into Kemsley Street Road. Follow the road round to the left and take a footpath on the right. Follow the footpaths round the field and exit the field directly opposite where you entered it.








Walk through Bredhurst woods until you reach Hurstwood Road a restricted byway, turn left and the right on Scragged Oak Road. At Pollyfields farm there should be a footpath cutting a corner to Hermitage Lane. The footpath wasn’t visible so turn right into Hermitage Lane. There are sign of a blocked footpath.


Hermitage Lane becomes Broader Lane. Where broader lane takes a sharp left turn continue straight on until you see a sign for the North Down Way. Turn right into the North Down Way. The expected views over the weald are mainly blocked by the vegetation.

Take a right turn along a footpath across a large field.


At the farmyard the path continues in a straight line into a track and not as shown on the OS Map. Go through a gate on the left and cross a meadow to a gate that can be clearly seen. take the path through the woods and then through a field onto Lidsing Road opposite. Continue until you reach the Harrow at Lidsing pub. Turn left into Westwood Sole Road then take right turn along a footpath. Take a left turn through a small wood. Then continue through a residential area to the Kestrel shopping precinct. A 166 bus will then take you to Chatham
