Bus Walk – Higham

A six mile walk through the village of Higham. The outward walk follows the roads through the village return on footpaths. Take the Chatham to Gravesend Bus and alight at Gad’s Hill.  Ordnance Survey Explorer map 163 Gravesend and Rochester covers this walk.

As you get off the bus you will see a horse trough.



Restored in 1996.

Cross the A226 and walk past the Sir John Falstaff pub in the direction of Gravesend.

Turn right at Forge lane towards the centre of Higham When you get to the Gardeners Arms turn right.

St Johns Church is on the left.

Walk back to the Gardeners arm and turn right

On the right you will see Higham Congregational Church

Further on past the village school

After crossing the railway you come to the Railway tavern

and then the former Chequers pub

At the end of the lane is St Marys Church Higham

From the Church retrace your steps for a few yards then turn left onto a track.

Past the pond

There is and old mowing machine

Follow a path to Lillechurch Farm. To see some WW2 pillboxes take a detour down the road to the left.

Follow the bridle path south from Lillechurch Farm over the Lower Rochester Road to Hermitage Road where you will see a mill

Turn right on Hermitage Road for a few yards then turn left at Hillyfield. A footpath on the right of the drive take you to Dillywood Lane. Turn right and Follow Dillywood Lane to the A226 where you can catch the bus home.
